Journey to Kazakhstan

All about my international adoption from Kazakhstan

Kim’s page

OCTOBER 18th – 2007

This is a page for me to post how Kim’s adoption is going.  Kim is a very nice single lady that lives in the town next to me who is adopting from Kazakhstan as well.  I met her through our adoption agency Adoption Ark.  We both have the same coordinator Alla A. who we both think is the tops.

Kim is going to Kazakhstan for an infant.  Since she claims to be technologically challenged (I doubt it) I thought I would post how her journey is going as well.  I have had requests to let everyone know how she is doing.   So here goes.

Kim is ahead of me in this process by about nine weeks.  Her dossier has been in Kazakhstan for a while now.  Last she had heard (September 21st) it was at the second ministry which is the Minsitry of Education.  Now she is waiting (pretty patiently I would say but she might disagree) for her dossier to be sent to the governing body in whatever region they send her to.  As soon as that is done she will be able to find out where she is going.  Then within a month of finding out she should receive her LOI – Letter of Invitation from Kazakhstan.  She would spend about a week to two weeks getting her VISA and finishing things up before she would travel.

I will post updates regularly on Kim’s page and mention the new posts in my blog.  Two journeys in one blog!  That’s getting your money’s worth.

OCTOBER 24TH – 2007

Kim heard back from Alla that there is no news right now, most likely becuase there is a holiday in Kazakhstan.  She said that hopefully they will know what region she is going to by next week.  Keep your fingers crossed for Kim that she finds out soon!

NOVEMBER 1st, 2007

KIM IS GOING TO THE KARAGANDA REGION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Alla called and let her know that her file was sent to the Karaganda region today!!!!

I have posted another map so you can see where this is.  map-of-kazakhstan.gif

Click on the map to enlarge it and look at the middle of the country for the city called Qaraghandy and underneath that it says (Karaganda).

If any PAPs are reading this that are heading to that region please leave a comment so I can forward it to Kim.  Also, if there are any single PAPs in particular please leave a comment.  I know that Kim would love to correspond with anyone that will be in the Karaganda region around the same time that she is there.

Isn’t this exciting!  I am so happy for her!  Now she waits to receive her Letter of Invitation (LOI) which can take up to a month but lets hope she gets it in a week or two.  Then usually she is on a plane a week to two weeks later.  Pretty good Christmas present wouldn’t you say?

So Kim may travel to any one of the orphanages in the Karaganda region which also includes the an area known as Zhezkazgan.  Congratulations Kim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOVEMBER 15TH – Kim is patiently (not) waiting for her LOI.  She is hoping she will get to go before the end of the year.  I have used my psychic powers to predict that she will get her LOI by December 2nd and will most likely travel either the week of December 16th or December 23rd.  Stay tuned to see if I have any psychic ability at all.

NOVEMBER 21ST – Sandi (another single lady) got her LOI today.  Her adoption timeline is just a bit earlier than Kim’s is and when Sandi found out about her region…Kim found out about her region a day later.  So….following this trend I believe that Kim will get her LOI very shortly…I would say absolutely not more than a week.  This is according to my blog stalking/psychic ablilities.

NOVEMBER 30TH – No LOI yet for Kim.  So much for my psychic abilities…no wonder I haven’t won the lottery yet.  I still am hoping that she will travel before the end of the year….am I being unrealistic?  maybe…but I still have my fingers crossed.

DECEMBER 13TH – KIM FOUND OUT HER COORDINATOR HAS HER LOI!!!!!!!!  More news to come on Monday when Kim finds out when and where she is going.

DECEMBER 17TH – KIM HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT ANY MORE INFO JUST YET ABOUT WHERE AND WHEN SHE IS GOING – My belief is that even though she has her LOI that AA’s in country coordinator is canvassing the infants that are in the Karaganda region (pretty large region) that are about to come off the registry there.  This process and the time it takes, although frustrating to a waiting PAP, is necessary to ensure that when Kim arrives she is able to see children that are available and fall under her requested range.  So Kim hang in there.  This is definitely the part you don’t really want anyone to rush willy-nilly through.  I think this is just one more area that AA really does go above and beyond.  If they didn’t care so much they could just send you on your way and keep their fingers crossed for you but they do the legwork that ensures that you will have a good outcome.  What more could any of us ask for?  Here is a thumbs up to the in country coordinator in the Karaganda region!!  Nice to see that the great help and care doesn’t stop at the US border and that clearly the in country staff are top notch as well!

JANUARY 4TH, 2008 – KIM IS STILL AWAITING FURTHER NEWS.  Well, the holidays are screwing things up for everyone now aren’t they?  Kim is still waiting for news and even if there was news to tell it most certainly wouldn’t come before mid January I would think due to the holidays in Kaz.  Next holiday is the 7th of January which is the Russian Orthodox Christmas.  So, I would suggest everyone check back after the 10th of January because if there were going to be any movement or updates that would seem to be the earliest we all would hear about them.

Kim, amazingly, has not killed any innocent bystanders up to this point.  I personally don’t have a clue where she is getting the strength.  I would be going Tara Croft Tombraider on everyone’s *** at this point so hey here is a hearty Internet high five to you Kim.  However, I suggest you all pay close attention to your nightly news and if you hear of a Kim that went ballistic from Illinois you can say…”Hey, I know her!”

No official LOI, I received an email from my coordinator saying I should have LOI in about a week and I am expected January 22. Once I get the real deal LOI.. I will post it on my site. Then I will truly believe it, I know their are a lot of holidays in dec/january so I am not surprised that I am not travelling until next year and I am ok with that.

Thanks again for clearing that up. Different agencies seem to do this part differently …some agencies (like yours) seem to get pre notice of the LOI coming via email and I think that some agencies (like mine and Kim’s) don’t get that pre notice and just have it show up. I knew that I had noticed this trend happening but now have more info about the differences which at least helps us know what to expect. Thanks again for the clarification.

Hi, my husband and I adopted from Ust back in April of 2005. We adopted a little girl from the same baby house. I love seeing pictures of the old place, it brings back wonderful memmories. Our daughter is 4 1/2 now. I’m sure that your daughter and mine where in there at the same time both waiting for their forever families to pick them up.

OMG! How strange my name is Erin too. We adopted from Ust in March-May 2005. We had to have been there at the same time. We adopted a gril 16months. What agency were you with? We were with AIP (the crooks). Yes, their director was on America’s Most Wanted. He finally got caught. Anyway, you must have pictures of our daughter and us yours.
